Research Roadmap

WIM advances through evidence gates, not dates. The public phases below group related work and may overlap; the underlying canonical gates advance only when their acceptance evidence exists and the required authority approves transition.

Engineering verification and scientific validation remain distinct. No current test, demonstration, audit, or fixture establishes that WIM improves real-world work.

Where the program stands

The Specification and Trust Invariants are approved, but the Reference Implementation has not passed its assurance gate.

How WIM becomes a trustworthy research system

These public phases group the canonical program's detailed evidence gates for a research audience. They do not replace or reorder the engineering roadmap in the repository.

  1. Phase 1

    Foundations

    Completed

Establish the Mission, ontology, Specification, Governance, and permanent authority boundaries that define the program.

  2. Phase 2

    Reference Implementation

    In Progress

Build the canonical implementation of the WIM Specification with emphasis on reproducibility, deterministic behavior, and verifiable conformance.

  3. Phase 3

    Verification

    In Progress

Apply trust enforcement, conformance validation, adversarial review, and independent audit. Engineering success is not treated as scientific validation.

  4. Phase 4

    Public Reality

    Planned

Introduce governed public observations and evidence only after rights, privacy, provenance, and temporal controls are approved. Evaluate behavior against permitted real-world data.

  5. Phase 5

    Longitudinal Learning

    Planned

Measure whether governed experience improves defined work over time. Resolve predictions against outcomes and revise or reject lessons when reality contradicts them.

  6. Phase 6

    Simulation Research

    Planned

Use bounded, reproducible simulations to generate hypotheses and stress cases. Simulation cannot validate itself; reality remains the authority for acceptance.

  7. Phase 7

    Scientific Publication

    Planned

Publish reviewed methods, benchmarks, datasets, results, failures, and limitations with reproducibility materials. Encourage independent replication without overstating the evidence.

  8. Phase 8

    Research Community

    Planned

Support public benchmarks, a Verifiable Research Ledger, controlled research infrastructure, external contributors, research partnerships, and independent evaluation under explicit governance.
